Image:MissouriPoll.png‎ This is from The Economist Aug 28 2008. "Show me a showdown"

This chart hopes to describe the support for the presidential candidates from voters in Missouri. It is bad because this information could be more easily described with words. In addition, it is dishonest. From a quick glance, the ratios of ink for Obama/McCain makes it look like McCain has 7 times as much support as Obama.

Image:BiotechAcquisitions.png‎ This is from The Economist on Aug 28 2008. "Convergence or conflict?"

This graph describes the value of all the acquisitions of biotech companies over the past 8 years. This graph is good, but not great. I like it because it displays their point that 2001 was a strange year. I also like it because it includes the number of acquisitions. I do not like it because it is a bar chart with boxes of numbers. It is time data. It should be a line. Then, the boxes with numbers could go at the bottom.
