-Introduction - What is iBCs? iBCs is a fun and interactive edutainment tool targeted towards young preschool children (between the ages of 3-5). The iPhone application is great for both the parent and child since it entertains the child while parents are busy working, driving, or running errands, while also teaching them ABC’s and numbers. iBCs combines letter tracing with coloring in order to create an application that not only helps kids learn to write, but also learn the meaning of what they’re writing by connecting words and letters to corresponding pictures. -Home View: The Home menu view is the main page of the iBCs application. From this page the user can access all the other views of the app. Buttons and their meanings: - Gear Button: accesses settings - Information button: audible information of the Home view and what all the buttons do - ABC: accesses the upper-case letter tracing activity - abc: accesses the lower-case letter tracing activity - 123: accesses the number tracing activity - Album: accesses the saved pictures album - Matching Game: accesses the matching game activity - Words: accesses the words tracing activity -Settings/Scores View: The setting and scores pages are currently template pages. When finished they are suppose to let the parent change certain features of the iBCs application such as turning on and off: - Random Cards - Alphabet Audio - Feedback Audio - Stroke Direction The setting page also has a button at the bottom that links to the scores page, which displays the highest scores from the matching game. The scores page is currently also a template and has not been implemented yet. However toolbars and back buttons for the pages have been implemented so the user can go from the Home view to these two views and back. -Letter/Number Tracing View: The lower, upper, and numbers views allow the child to practice tracing a variety of characters. An eight color palette of color pencils can be seen on the left and right of the hollow characters, which allows the child to choose the color they want to trace with (default being set to black). Furthermore the child can utilize the swipe action by the arrows near the middle of the screen to cycle through the letters of the alphabet. The tool bar at the top allows users to: - Return to the Home view - Undo the last stroke that they just did (this is not implemented yet) - Audio of the letter (currently done with wizard of oz) - Save the screen (also has wizard of oz audio, currently not implemented for letter tracing view) - Audible information of the view and what all the buttons do (currently done with wizard of oz) Furthermore by clicking on the 'ABC', 'abc', or '123' button (depending on which view the user is on) at the bottom of the page, the child can go to an all letters/numbers view that allows them to pick the next character they want to work on. In addition to tracing letters, the user is also able to select the letter’s corresponding picture which leads to the connect-the-dots/canvas view (the picture is only available for capital and lower case letters, because the group decided that the physical size of the iPhone limits the number of objects we can have in one picture). -Connect-the-Dots/Canvas View: The Connect-the-Dots/Canvas View allows the user to express their creativity and learn to associate the picture of an object with a corresponding letter. It can be accessed from the letter tracing view. The Canvas view lets users color an associated picture with various colors (which can be seen as color pencils at the bottom of the page), and also change the line width. The tool bar at the top allows users to: - Return to the Home view - Undo the last stroke that they just did (this is not implemented yet) - Audio of the letter (currently done with wizard of oz) - Save the screen (also has wizard of oz audio) - Audible information of the view and what all the buttons do (currently done with wizard of oz) -Words View: The words view is similar to the 'ABC', 'abc', and '123' tracing views. However we have not fully implemented the words view yet. We ran into trouble getting the iPhone landscape to load correctly. As a result, we opted to save the implementation of the words view for a later iteration in order to have enough time to implement the three main tasks. -Album View: The album view is where the user can view all their saved drawings. A grid of image thumbnails is displayed on this view. To view the saved drawing, the users can double-tap the desired thumbnail and a view with an enlarged version of the saved image will appear. To delete a saved drawing, users can simply drag the desired thumbnail to the trash can icon at the top of the screen. The tool bar at the top allows users to: - Return to home - Delete a picture - Audible information of the view and what all the buttons do (currently done with wizard of oz) -Matching Game View: The matching game view is just a template page right now. We have not currently implemented this functionality yet. Our group opted to work on the three main tasks first before starting on the matching game interface.
