Problem Description

Did you ever have to wait in a long line just to get your prescription read by a pharmacist? Now, that problem could be solved by getting your information to the pharmacist before you getting there physically. Some physicians in local clinics prefer their patients to get medications from certain pharmacy espcially those who have a pharmacy attached to the clinic. With Anoto digital pen, physicians can now write prescription on the digital paper and send the information directly to their prefered pharmacists. This new technology makes both patients' and doctors' lives little easier.

Target User Group

As mentioned above, the target users would be those local clinic physicians who prefer their own pharmacist or just any physician who wants to avoid typing patient records at the end of the day.

Problem Context and Forces

The doctors would write the prescription in a way they're used to except the pen and paper would be digital. Then by via BlueTooth or docking station, the information will get sent to their favorite pharmacists. When the pharmacist confirms the information, we can use a vibration mode as a feeback option. Additionaly, we can use an open source DBMS to maintain all the records so that way both the databases get updated when the information is sent. This works because all the parties involved have a copy of the prescription, a patient with the physical copy and others with the digital ones. Finally, by using a handwriting recognition software one can search through the patient database with certain fields.

Solution Sketch

A physician would write the patient ID number and his/her own name on each form and fill out the prescription as usual. An unique PID(pen Id) feature would also be useful to figure out which doctor has written the prescription. By checking the update button at the bottom of the form will update both doctor's and pharmacist's databases. But before that there will be a prompt for the user to make any corrections or simply to check if the information is correct.
